Epoch 12V to 36V Marine DC-to-DC Charger | Charge on the Run
Charge your 36V trolling motor battery while the engine is running.
Turn engine runtime into usable trolling-motor charging power with the Epoch CHG-DC-36V Marine DC-to-DC Charger.
Designed for compatible 12V or 24V starter-battery systems, this charger converts available DC power into a regulated 36V / 10A charging output for a compatible 36V auxiliary battery.
Automatic voltage sensing starts and stops charging based on source voltage, while selectable LiFePO4, lead-acid, and AGM charging profiles provide compatibility with different battery chemistries. The epoxy-filled IP67 enclosure, active cooling, built-in protection, and onboard mounting make it a practical solution for bass boats, tournament anglers, and other run-and-gun marine applications.
Charge the front of the boat while the outboard is running.

Charge on the Run
Turn engine time into trolling-motor runtime
The CHG-DC-36V allows a compatible 12V or 24V starter-battery system to supplement charging of a separate 36V trolling-motor battery while the engine is running.
Rather than directly connecting the starter and trolling-motor batteries, the charger monitors source voltage, converts the available DC power, and provides a regulated 36V / 10A charging output.
The result is a convenient way to put energy back into your 36V trolling-motor battery while you're underway between fishing spots.
Important: This is an onboard charging supplement, not a replacement for a full dockside recharge.
Designed for 12V or 24V Source Systems
The charger's published 13–30VDC input range allows it to work with compatible 12V and 24V source systems.
It is not compatible with a 36V input battery.
12V source
- Charging starts above 13.8V
- Charging stops below 13.0V
24V source
- Charging starts above 26.8V
- Charging stops below 25.2V
These voltage thresholds allow the charger to recognize when the source system is being actively charged and stop charging when source voltage drops.
Regulated 36V / 10A Charging
The CHG-DC-36V provides a regulated 36V / 10A output, equivalent to approximately 360W of nominal output power before conversion losses.
That makes the charger particularly useful for extending the available runtime of a 36V trolling-motor battery during a day on the water.
Actual charging performance depends on source voltage, alternator capacity, existing electrical loads, cable sizing, voltage drop, battery condition, and conversion losses.
Selectable Battery Chemistry
Choose the appropriate charging profile before charging your 36V battery.
- LiFePO4
- Lead-Acid
- AGM
The front-panel MODE button allows you to select the appropriate battery profile.
Lithium BMS Activation
For compatible sleeping lithium batteries, select the LiFePO4 mode and hold the MODE button for approximately 3 seconds to activate the battery's BMS.
Do not change the battery type while the charger is charging. Disconnect the output ring terminals before changing the MODE setting.
Automatic Start, Stop & Hibernation
The charger automatically monitors source voltage and controls charging without requiring a separate manual ignition trigger.
When source voltage falls below the applicable stop threshold, charging stops to help protect the source battery from unnecessary discharge.
After approximately 20 minutes at idle, the charger enters hibernation while continuing to monitor source voltage. Charging can resume when the appropriate charging threshold is detected.
The MODE button also provides manual control:
- Short press: Wake the charger
- Hold approximately 3 seconds: Activate compatible sleeping LiFePO4 batteries
- Hold approximately 6 seconds: Turn the charger off
Protect Your Starting-Battery Reserve
The charger regulates the transfer of energy between the source and auxiliary battery rather than creating an uncontrolled battery-to-battery connection.
However, the charger does not eliminate the need to properly size the complete electrical system.
A 36V / 10A output represents approximately 360W before conversion losses. On a 12V source system, that can translate into substantial input-side current.
Before installation, verify:
- Alternator or charging-system capacity
- Existing electrical loads
- Available current margin
- Starter-battery condition
- Cable ampacity
- Cable length and voltage drop
- Fuse sizing
- Grounding
- Battery manufacturer's charging requirements
If the source charging system does not have sufficient capacity, the charger can place additional demand on the starting system.
Built for Marine Installations
IP67 Epoxy-Filled Enclosure
The CHG-DC-36V uses an aluminum enclosure filled with epoxy resin and carries an IP67 ingress-protection rating.
That makes it well suited for properly installed onboard marine applications.
IP67 does not mean the charger should be intentionally submerged or installed where it will remain underwater.
Protect the ring terminals, cables, and electrical connections from direct exposure to rain, standing water, spray, abrasion, and physical damage.
Active Cooling
This is not a fanless charger.
The aluminum housing and bottom cooling plate work together with a waterproof cooling fan to manage operating temperature.
Maintain more than 30mm of clearance around the unit and keep the fan and cooling surfaces unobstructed.
Secure Onboard Mounting
The compact 250 × 95 × 68mm enclosure features 6.5mm mounting holes. M6 fasteners are recommended where appropriate for the mounting surface.
Mount the charger securely to a rigid surface and support the cables to prevent vibration, abrasion, or excessive strain on the terminals.
Straightforward Onboard Installation
The charger uses pre-wired ring-terminal connections.
- Red = Positive
- Black = Negative
The red and black conductors within the same cable jacket must be connected to the same battery.
The CHG-DC-36V is a non-isolated charger, so polarity, grounding, battery connections, and cable routing must be carefully planned.
Use appropriate marine-grade conductors, fusing, disconnects, terminal protection, and cable support.
Always follow the supplied wiring diagram and verify the complete system before applying power.
Non-Isolated Charger Notice
The CHG-DC-36V is non-isolated.
Voltage-sensing control should not be confused with galvanic isolation. The source and auxiliary circuits remain electrically connected through the charger.
Follow the manufacturer's wiring diagram and carefully verify:
- Battery polarity
- Grounding
- Fuse placement
- Cable sizing
- Battery compatibility
- Source-system capacity
- Output battery configuration
If you're unsure whether this charger is appropriate for your boat, contact Direct Current Boatworks before installation.
Ideal Applications
The Epoch CHG-DC-36V is designed for applications such as:
- Bass boats with a 12V starter battery and compatible 36V trolling-motor battery
